7690: A Textural Landscape
The mountains surrounding my South African home have been an awe-inspiring source, drawn almost daily for a number of years. In 2018, I decide to create a sketchbook to be placed in a permanent collection of sketchbooks at the Brooklyn Art Library, New York.
Life had once again geographically separated my husband and I, this time by 9000 miles in NYC. The book also took a journey to this new home city and I was reunited with it on Governors Island when it went on a group tour later that year.
Part sketchbook, part scrapbook and part journal it marks the sights and my experiences of these mountains. A visual portrayal of the valley that hugs a home, with its changing seasons and events. Different mediums represent differing situational and environmental effects such as climate change brought by drought, or the burning melted effects of wild fires. It aims to display through abstract collage and photographic study the beautiful pocket of one postal code a continent away, yet digitally accessible to the world.
